About Vintage Performance

Vintage Performance was founded in 2011 with a focus on machining and building high-performance air-cooled Volkswagen engines. What began with Volkswagen work gave us years of hands-on experience with the details that matter in air-cooled engine machining and assembly—accurate measuring, proper clearances, careful setup, and an understanding of how each machining operation affects the finished engine.

In 2021, our work took us in a new direction when a prominent Porsche engine builder approached us about machining Porsche 356 and 912 engine cases. That relationship gave us the opportunity to apply our air-cooled Volkswagen machining experience to the Porsche platform. Over the next five years, we developed and refined the tooling, processes, and techniques required to perform this work accurately and consistently, and those processes continue to evolve today.  Since that time, Porsche 356 and 912 machining has become an increasingly important part of what we do. In 2026, we made the decision to take Vintage Performance full time and begin offering our Porsche machining services directly to the general public.

Today, we specialize in precision machine work for Porsche 356 and 912 engine cases and components. Our services include line boring, cylinder boring, cam bore honing and bearing fabrication, preparation for 911 piston squirters, case cleaning, and other specialized operations involved in rebuilding and restoring these engines.

We approach every case with the same philosophy that has guided us from the beginning: measure carefully, machine accurately, and do the job correctly rather than simply doing it quickly. These engines are becoming increasingly valuable, and many of the parts we work with are no longer easily replaced. We treat them accordingly.

Vintage Performance combines more than a decade of air-cooled engine machining experience with a specialized focus on Porsche 356 and 912 engines. Our goal is simple: provide careful, accurate machine work that helps preserve these engines for another generation.
